| | | | | | | Resources Extended confidential cover from Howden Professionals 26 April 2007: Howden Professionals, a provider of civil liability insurance with a reputation for delivering professional service and comprehensive cover at a fair price, has extended the limits of the confidential information cover provided in its policies. The new extended cover will allow up to £5,000 (per incidence) of legal costs incurred by practitioners defending their clients’ right to confidentiality – the most generous limit available to practitioners in the marketplace.
Matthew Reed, Managing Director of Howden Professionals, explains: “We’re seeing more and more practitioners facing demands from the courts as solicitors employ ‘bully boy’ tactics to try and force the release or disclosure of confidential information. This is anathema for counsellors and psychotherapists as the very nature of the relationship with their clients is based upon confidentiality. Putting aside the conflict such a request can cause in terms of the relationship between client and practitioner, being faced with a court order can be a daunting experience. There is a real need for civil liability policies to provide greater legal help and assistance to practitioners in these trying circumstances. We feel it is our duty to extend the cover available under our policies, and at no extra cost, so that our policyholders continue to receive a fair deal and first class cover and service.”
Costing on average 20% less than its major competitors, civil liability insurance policy from Howden Professionals provides practitioners with cover for any civil liability arising from their business or professional activities. It includes:
- Professional indemnity (sometimes called errors & omissions or malpractice insurance) and public & product liability insurance including the libel & slander risk and
- unlike some policies
- there are no inner limits on these important areas of cover.
- A choice of three generous limits of indemnity (£1.5m, £3m or £5m) provided on an ‘any one claim’ basis – meaning that the chosen limit is available for each and every claim made against the member in the policy year as opposed to ‘aggregate limit’ where the value of any settlement is taken away from the annual limit of indemnity.
- Legal costs in addition to the limit of indemnity – meaning that any legal cost incurred in defending an allegation of a claim are not limited by the policy limit. This is a significant addition given that the majority of costs associated with a claim or alleged claim are the legal expenses.
- Directors and officers cover in the event that a personal allegation is made for a negligent act or an act outside the agreed level of authority in your capacity as a director
- officer or trustee of any organisation.
- Free run-off cover for a period of three years in the event of death
- retirement or career break.
- 24-hour legal helpline providing expert advice across a broad range of both business and personal legal issues.
